Alright I finally talked my dad into going with the 790 with 419 loader instead of the farm pro. We wont be buying for another month or 2 so is there and problems with the 790 w/ the 419 loader i should know about ?

We also have an older 5' HOWSE brush hog will the 790 pull it?

The 790 0r 90 series is about as solid as it gets. Others that own and use will back that up. I went to 4000 series for more features... of course more money also.

The 790 might be a little less hp than the 5' would like. But its just a mater of going a gear or so slower.

Good luck with the new tractor. ....

jd60kid - click on search & type in "jd 790 bucket dropping" & read that whole post from start to finish. I had a 790 & spent over 5oo hours on it brush clearing & mowing tall grass with a 5' brush hog. It will do that job no sweat. I've cleared up to 3.5" brush in 1st & second gear high range. I had to use 4th gear low range in tall grass, tall meaning 3' - 4' in hieght. So if that is what you are looking to do, It will be a good machine. ....

I have only once in 120 hours ever had do go from 5th to 6th gear. The 5 foot brush hog will not be any problem for the 790. If the brush is that thick, you won't want to go in 6th (5mph) anyway as you are likely to hit soemthing hidden in the weeds. ....

The bucket dropping thread describes a problem with an older design. If you're buying new it doesn't apply. ....
